New Life – About Us

Why We Exist

To Serve Jesus

Our mission is to reach the people of the world for Christ, build them up as fully devoted servant-leaders and send them out as messengers of God’s Good News, all for the glory of God. New Life Fellowship is a church designed to help you discover purpose, meaning, and joy in life.

What We Believe

About Jesus

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

~ Romans 10:9

How We Make Disciples

of Jesus

They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

~ Acts 2:46-47

Pastor Eric Shin

Senior Pastor

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

~ 2 Corinthians 8:9

As the Head Pastor at New Life, Eric Shin has founded the church together with about twenty members on August 10, 1997. He grew up in New York City and was saved at the age of eighteen at a youth conference. After experiencing joys and challenges of following Christ and serving in His local church during high school and college years, he left behind aspirations of being a lawyer in his hometown and followed God’s call to seminary.

Pastor Eric (affectionately known as PE) pastored a church in Boston for several years before coming to New Life with his lovely wife Lynette and their three children, Enoch, Caleb, and Josiah. He has had the honor of serving the Lord in places like Afghanistan, where he has been able to live out his faith and share the gospel with the Muslim world like his spiritual hero, Samuel Zwemer.

When PE isn’t shepherding the New Life flock, he enjoys fishing, golfing and sharing good food with good people. But no matter where he is or what he’s doing, PE lives by his favorite verse in 2 Corinthians 8:9 because it reminds him of how Christ became poor for our sake, so that through His poverty we might become rich.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.

~ Mark 12:30

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source.

Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Pastor Chae Cho

Children’s Pastor

And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

~ Matthew 18:3

Growing up, Chae Cho’s dream was to become the next head coach of the University of Texas football team (Hook’m!). He promptly realized that he would be quite unsuccessful in this endeavor and instead decided to attend the University as student. During his freshman year, he was led to Jesus Christ by an older brother who demonstrated what it meant to be a Christ follower and how to have a genuine love for God and His people. When he graduated in 2003, he returned home and accepted an exciting offer to work with the Houston Rockets. He also made the decision to join New Life Fellowship and instantly his life changed as he began serving in the Children’s Ministry. As a volunteer in Joshua Cross Stars, God began unraveling Chae’s passion for children and he discovered the importance of raising the next generation of children to treasure Jesus and his word.

Before long, Chae’s devotion to teach children became the catalyst for changing his career and for the past four years, he has been a middle school teacher in the Alief School District. Joshua Cross Stars also provided him the opportunity to meet his future wife, Suemy, a very energetic, spunky, joyful and most of all, person who is devoted to God. In 2007, they were married and they have served together in the Children’s Ministry ever since. God furthered Chae’s aspiration to serve children and he began attending Dallas Theological Seminary part-time to better himself as a teacher and core leader. Shortly after, God confirmed Chae’s calling into full time ministry and he has committed to serve in a ministry where he feels he will be in the best capacity to be a resource and mentor for children.

Chae loves working with children and encouraging them to reach their highest potential as they progress into mature men and women of Christ. He hopes to make God supreme in the hearts of children! In his free time, Chae enjoys basketball, football, watching Houston sports teams, playing with their dog, Noa, and video editing. One of Chae’ favorite verses is Matthew 18:3: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” This verse is a constant reminder of how precious children are and how we all need to have child-like faith without any circumstances clouding our minds.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

~ Matthew 6:33

In 2004, Lisa was invited to house church by a close friend, and in 2005 she accepted Christ into her heart as her Lord and Savior. During this time, she was also working as a legal assistant in a law firm specializing in foreclosures. Lisa began praying that if it was God’s will, He would open doors to a job where she could serve Him full-time.

God’s timing was perfect and Lisa ended up working at New Life Fellowship, where she is working as an administrator. The very first Bible verse Lisa remembers, and still holds dear to her heart is Matthew 6:33 – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

She says it reminds her that God should always come first and everything else that God has planned for her will be laid out according to His will. On her downtime you will find Lisa reading, baking, and hanging out with friends, family, and youth students.

so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

~ Isaiah 55:11

After receiving my degree in science, my husband and I decided that it would be best if I stayed home with our little ones. As they started school, I wanted to find a part time job. Started working at a dental office as an office manager, but that did not allow me to be home when the kids were home. One would think I would jump at the chance to work at church, but I didn’t. I told God that I would only work if Pastor Eric asked which he did, and here I am.

Loving it! Before my kids and I came to NLF through the VBS program in the summer of 2008, we did not go to church, or know God, only heard of Him. Little did I know what God had planned for my family and me, but I came to know and love God through VBS, House Church and serving people. Other interest includes reading, gardening, and crafting.

In human eyes it seems very discouraging when one encounter people who does not come to believe for one reason or another, but this verse is a reminder that God’s desires and purpose will be accomplished whether it will be now or many years from now. God’s word(s) will not return to Him Empty.
