Pure Joy

I can’t believe how quickly time is passing by. Our little tomato (he’s more like a butternut squash now) is already four months old! As parents, Gina and I are always looking for signs of healthy development, commonly known as milestones, and this past Friday marked a huge milestone for our son George. While Gina was playing with him, she discovered a way to make him giggle for the first time! I’ve heard other babies giggle and it’s really cute, but when it’s your own child and he’s giggling for the first time, it’s the sweetest sound in the world. Fortunately, Gina recorded that moment on video and as we watched it over and over again on Friday night, both of our hearts were filled with pure joy.

They say that when you become a father yourself, you catch a glimpse of the heart that our Heavenly Father has for us. When I think about George giggling, I can’t help but think that God takes so much more delight in us when we, His children, are truly happy and filled with joy.

Psalm 139, one of my favorite passages in the Bible, talks about the far-reaching love that God has for each one of us: “How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!” The author is basically saying how wonderful it is to know that God thinks about him so much because He loves him so much.

As much joy as George brings to Gina and me, it simply does not compare with how much joy we bring to God. He loves us more than we’ll ever know and He’s thinking about you and me every day!
