THE ORDER OF HOUSE CHURCH MEETING

Layman’s seminar is just around the corner.  This time more participants are coming from different continents like Korea, China and Australia than the US.  Considering the great sacrifice of these participants who are coming from such distant location, I sincerely hope that they will gain what they come for.  Since this week’s house church is with a guest, it would be important that the house church will be presented without omitting any important elements.  Because of that, I want to stress few areas which can be neglected easily. The two most important parts of house church are to help people to experience love and answered prayer.  Even ...

HAVING ATTENDED PASTORS’ CONFERENCE

Last week, from Monday to Thursday, I attended the house church conference.  This conference is to aid pastors who attended the seminar to successfully implement the house church system.  During the daytime, Life series of bible study was presented in an intensive format.  In the evening, we had case study, question and answer session and small group meetings to discuss various relevant issues.  On Wednesday afternoon, we had time to tour the city and for fellowship.  When the official schedule was over, regional leaders met for further discussions and dispersed late Thursday night. Except for the few who could not make it because of hurricane ...

WHY WE CAN SMILE AT ADVERSITY

Hurricane Harvey caused the biggest rain damage in Houston’s history. Starting from the middle of last week, I visited several flood-ravaged areas and It was truly brutal.  The rotten smell filled the air, and household items and pieces torn out from houses were irregularly piled high on the front yard.  A garage door which could not bear the water pressure was dented and people were there with blank eyes.  In such a situation, our congregation kept bright faces.  Pictures taken from recovery site shows such bright smiles, it is difficult to distinguish who is the one who suffered flood damage.  I suppose the reason is we have much encouragem...

WHAT HURRICANE HARVEY LEFT BEHIND TO US

Last week, we experienced something which we never experienced before.  For the first time in the history of SBC, we could not have Sunday worship service.  Not only that, we had to cancel all church events until Thursday. The heavy rain which started from Saturday night equaled almost the rainfall for a typical year.  Because of that, many of the congregation experienced flooding in homes and businesses.  After so much rain, on Sunday night, the rain continued.  I am sure many of you could not sleep concerned of flooding. Despite all this, it was so wonderful and dramatic that the rain finally stopped on Tuesday.  In such a situation, if ...

I HAVE BEEN ELECTED AS PRESIDENT OF HCM NORTH AMERCIA

Some of you may already heard through the home pages of SBCH and House Church Ministries International (HCMI), I have been elected to be the president of the House Church Ministries, North America (HCMNA).  Currently, Pastor Chai is the president of HCMI, but this organization will be divided into two divisions of North America and Korea. The first reason for the division is because of the retirement of Pastor Chai.  He started the house church system and has promoted it in many countries by traveling all over the world.  However, after his retirement, there is no single person who can handle such a task, so it is considered to be the best to ...

Faith is a Process

One thing we need to remember about our faith walk is that it should change as time goes.  As one grows from a child and to be an adult then become a parent and learn more about life, our faith should grow from childhood to a mature stage. The most important part of childhood is discipline.  No parents give much freedom to a child and let him/her make own choices.  Since child does not understand the value of freedom, it is more effective to disciple than allow freedom.  Parent should have authority and power to demand obedience.  In the bible, there are so many direct commands such as “Do this.” Or “Don’t do that.”  That is because ...

My Daily Routine

Sometimes, I noticed that church members do not know my work schedule or activity and are surprised to hear that I am busy.  Since they see me on Sunday, they may think that I am busy only on Sundays.  Therefore, I want to inform you of my daily routine.  I do not mean to brag about it.  It is offered only for a better understanding. Normally, I get up at 4:30am to come to church.  5 am to 8 am is my prayer time.  Then, I spend some time for physical exercise.  I used to go to LA Fitness for swimming, but it took too much time so these days I mainly do indoor weight training for about an hour. Monday mornings, I handle administrative work ...
