Lighthouses of Prayer

Starting from this Tuesday, we will begin our Lighthouses of Prayer ministry. We are doing this in response to the challenge God has given us during this year??s fall retreat in the area of prayer in our lives. We all know in our heads that persistent and fervent prayer is absolutely vital for any Christ follower and God??s church to grow and mature in Christ. However, it is not that easy developing a prayerful life on our own especially when we are spiritually young. We need support, encouragement and challenge from one another in order for us to develop the habit of prayer. And when we do our part as best as we know how, God will certainly ...

Being a Member of One Church

There are rumors going around in New Life that Pastor Eric has personally asked certain individuals who are coming to our house churches to leave. Whenever I hear about things being spread around that are not true or being miscommunicated, I get a strong urge to do what Nehemiah did with some of the Jews who were disobedient to God and His Word :-) ??I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair.?? (Nehemiah 13: 25) I am joking but it definitely does concern and upset me. Just recently I had called a mandatory house church shepherds?? meeting on Wednesday (9/14) to which every shepherd came ...

The Kingdom of God Is Growing!

I just prayed for the Kosovo Team and saw them go off to the airport on Thursday afternoon. This is the second to our last short-term missions team this year. When Cambodia Team gets sent off on Saturday, 7/23 and comes back in August, we will have completed all of our short-term missions trips for this year: Djibouti, Camp Barnabas, Mexico, China, Kosovo and Cambodia. I still vividly remember taking six brothers and sisters from New Life in my minivan and going to Camp Barnabas for the first time in the summer of 1998. That was our first mission trip as a church. Eight years later, since the founding of New Life, we are sending more than 60 ...

Some Clarifications on One-to-One Discipleship

Christian life is a great adventure that is filled with excitement and thrills. Yet, it is also marked with pain and suffering. That's why God is telling us to live this life not alone, but together with one another. Hebrews 10: 23-25 says, "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another?and all the more as you see the Day approaching." We need encouragement and support from one another to press on. One of the best ways to do ...

We Don’t Have to Change Our Sunday Worship Time!

In the last "From the Pastor's Desk" I had shared with you that we are changing our Sunday worship time to 3:30PM beginning May 15. It was because the KSC (Korean Speaking Congregation) would need the gym for two or three Sundays while they are going through their worship center remodeling project. Moreover, they were planning to break the ground behind the trailer house to begin their youth center building project. This was going to take away about 80 parking spaces on the gravel parking lot which would cause not a small parking problem for the entire church. As I thought and prayed about the whole situation for several weeks, it became clear ...

Sunday Worship at 3:30PM

Beginning Sunday, May 15 New Life will need to have Sunday worship at 3:30PM at least for a month if not for five months. As you have noticed, there is a lot of construction going on in our church these days. Our Korean Speaking Congregation (KSC) is remodeling their worship center and fellowship hall to accommodate their growing needs. In about a month, they will need to tear down the walls of their worship center and put a new wall around it to expand their space. This process will take about two or three weeks during which they will need a place to worship. Their first worship begins at 9AM and their second at 11:45AM, and their worship ...

We Heard God’s Voice through Our Family Meeting!

As you all know, we had our family meeting last Sunday at 6:30PM in the trailer house. After having a brief but pleasant ice cream social we dove right into the agenda for the evening which was to hear from The Building Committee (BC) about their recommendation of a design-build firm that will help New Life build our future facilities and to vote on whether or not we will go with the BC's suggestion. Harold Yi, the BC chairperson, did a great job of presenting the material in a summary form of what the committee has been working on for the past several months. We would like to thank all the committee members for their sacrificial dedication up ...
